Why University of Iowa Health Care

I wanted to come to University of Iowa Health Care because pharmacists here are viewed in such high regard and are able to practice at the top of their license, especially in the ambulatory care setting. There are a vast number of rotation opportunities in the specialty clinics which have exposed me to different disease states and have helped determine my interests. I also wanted to be at a residency program that offered opportunities to teach in a pharmacy school and precept students. Another aspect that drew me to this program was the large residency class. I wanted to be a part of a larger class since I was moving to a new area and didn't know anyone in the Iowa City area.

Why University of Iowa Health Care

When I decided to go back for a pharmacy residency, I knew I wanted to learn as much as possible. This was my opportunity to learn more about pharmacy and choose a new path in a field that I have already enjoyed for thirteen years. The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics has a robust reputation and a very clinical HSPAL program. With an interest in informatics, I am excited to join a system with a growing and proactive informatics component. Overall, I feel like University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics gives students exposure in many areas and has many ways to tailor the program to fit the needs of the resident.

Why University of Iowa Health Care

I chose the University of Iowa for residency because of the strong reputation this program has for preparing well-rounded clinicians and pharmacy professionals. From my first interaction to my interview with the UIHC, I knew this was a program that cared for their residents, while challenging each one to continue to learn and grow personally and professionally. My goal was to find a program with a strong, challenging clinical year that would prepare me to move into the second year of management through HSPAL. My decision to pursue residency at UIHC was solidified during my time in PPS, recruitment, and my interview. Another benefit of UIHC HSPAL is they allow their residents to choose between three master's degrees, where we can tailor our learning to our career goals. The people at UIHC are second to none and are the highlight of this program.

Why University of Iowa Health Care

My first rotation during my fourth year of pharmacy school was an administrative rotation at University of Iowa Health Care. This rotation confirmed my desire to pursue a HSPAL residency. Throughout the remainder of my rotations, I was able to build amazing connections with many pharmacists at UIHC which further solidified my desire to complete residency here. Every person I have interacted with at UIHC has made me feel welcome and helped foster my learning. The HSPAL program at UIHC has a strong reputation of producing exceptional pharmacy leaders. Why University of Iowa Health Care

I was interested in the University of Iowa Health Care residency program because of the many opportunities to develop my skills as an ambulatory care pharmacist. At UI I wanted a residency program that was going to make me grow as a professional and a person and knew the University of Iowa was going to do exactly that. From my interview, I could tell that the pharmacy staff really cared about getting to know me as a person, saw my potential, and put emphasis on helping residents learn. I also wanted to be challenged and learn in a major academic medical center setting. All the healthcare professionals at UIHC, especially my preceptors, have helped me expand my clinical skills to where I am able to treat and manage complex patients, and I feel confident knowing that wherever I practice post-residency, I am equipped with the skills to handle any situation. The HSPAL program at UIHC is another major reason why I chose to do my residency here. The program gave me the opportunity to earn my Executive Master's in Health Administration, learn valuable administration, management, and leadership skills, and still be able to practice clinically as I am on the Solid Organ Transplant team within our institution. Finally, the various opportunities to teach students through the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy PEPPR program and precept was really attractive to me as I also have a passion for mentoring pharmacy students.
