Cardiac Imaging
When your child needs heart imaging, you want accurate answers and a plan you can trust. Our pediatric cardiac imaging team evaluates heart concerns ranging from murmurs and chest pain to complex congenital heart disease, using the least invasive and safest tests first.
We partner closely with your child’s cardiologist, surgeons, and interventional specialists to guide care from diagnosis through treatment planning and follow‑up.
Complete imaging for precise answers
We use a full range of pediatric cardiac imaging techniques and combine studies when needed to create a complete, accurate picture of your child’s heart.
Our approach is stepwise and intentional. We start with ultrasound (echocardiography) whenever possible. If additional detail is needed, we thoughtfully select advanced imaging that provides critical information while minimizing exposure and discomfort.
For children with complex anatomy or advanced heart disease, imaging plays a critical role in shaping care. Tools such as 3D image segmentation and, when appropriate, 3D printing help surgeons and interventional cardiologists plan procedures with precision. Our imaging specialists also support procedures in real time in the cardiac catheterization lab and operating room.
Our approach to care
Every imaging plan is tailored to your child’s diagnosis, age, and individual needs, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and family support. Our team aims to get the clearest possible picture of your child’s heart without unnecessary testing or exposure. Our approach includes:
- Stepwise imaging. Most questions are answered with echocardiography. When additional detail is needed, we carefully choose cardiac MRI or CT based on what we need.
- Personalized preparation. Some studies require contrast, breath‑holding, or brief sedation. We prepare families in advance and coordinate closely with anesthesia when needed.
- Child‑centered experience. Child life specialists, comfort items, and interactive distractions help children feel calm and supported. Most studies allow for same‑day discharge.
- Team‑based care. Imaging findings directly guide medical therapy, catheter‑based procedures, and surgery through close collaboration with your child’s care team.
- Ongoing follow‑up. We track imaging results over time and coordinate repeat studies when needed to support long‑term care.
With this careful, step-by-step approach, we make sure every image helps guide meaningful decisions about your child’s heart care. Throughout the process, you'll receive clear explanations, timely updates, and guidance on next steps.
