Get orthopedic care faster with walk-in and clinic options
UI Health Care offers convenient walk-in and clinic appointment options so you can get your orthopedic pain and injuries evaluated quickly, start treatment sooner, and connect with the right orthopedic specialist, if needed.
Convenient ways to get orthopedic care
Joint pain, back pain, and other orthopedic problems can make it harder to work, exercise, and stay active.
UI Health Care offers more ways to help you get started with care, whether it’s a recent injury or pain that has been building over time.
“In addition to our talented surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and advanced practice providers [APPs] who specialize in areas such as joint replacement, spine, sports medicine, and others, we also have APPs who practice general orthopedics and see patients with a wide variety of orthopedic needs,” says Mary Greve, MPAS, PA-C, MHA, an orthopedics and rehabilitation physician assistant with UI Health Care. “These generalists have the advantage of being able to call upon our specialty trained teams when more help is needed."
This means you can get evaluated and treated right away and will be guided to the right next step if you need specialized care.
For recent injuries, visit the Orthopedic Injury Walk-In Clinic at UI Health Care’s North Liberty campus.
For ongoing orthopedic concerns, make an appointment with one of our orthopedic clinics.

Care for pain that isn’t a new injury
Not every orthopedic problem starts with a sudden injury. You may experience pain that develops gradually or doesn’t go away.
For these concerns, make an appointment with one of our orthopedic experts to get evaluated and begin care.
During the visit, an orthopedic-trained provider will assess your symptoms, answer your questions, and recommend the next steps based on your needs.
In some cases, treatment can begin right away.
“Sometimes you may benefit from physical therapy and anti-inflammatory treatment, and that may be all you need,” Greve says.
Need orthopedic care right away?
If you’re dealing with a sudden injury, our Orthopedic Injury Walk-In Clinic can help you start treatment sooner.
Helping you take the next step in care
Some orthopedic conditions require additional imaging or evaluation from a specialist, such as a spine, joint, or sports medicine expert.
When that’s the case, your care team will guide you through the next steps so you can move forward with confidence.
During your visit, the care team may:
- Perform a detailed orthopedic exam
- Review your health history
- Order imaging tests such as X-rays or MRIs
- Recommend early treatment options
- Connect you with the right orthopedic specialist
By gathering this information early, your care team can prepare you for the next step in your treatment plan.
“When initial conservative measures aren't successful, our generalists have the advantage of calling upon any of our subspeciality teams for additional support, experience, and guidance,” Greve says.
By the time you see a specialist, your exam findings, imaging results, and health history are already documented, allowing the specialist to focus on the best treatment plan for you.
Orthopedic expertise guiding your care
Advanced practice providers evaluate a wide range of musculoskeletal issues and help determine the best starting point for treatment.
"We have a group of talented. Orthopedic-trained advanced practice providers who help patients with all types of orthopedic complaints,” Greve says.
Because they work directly with orthopedic specialists, they can help you begin treatment and guide you to the right care if additional evaluation is needed.
“They know how to get you started on a treatment strategy,” Greve says.
