Minimally Invasive Procedures

Surgeons at UI Hospitals & Clinics and UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital userobot-assisted surgery technology extensively, performing many procedures previously carried out by means of open surgery. The state-of-the-art da Vinci® robotic systems give surgeons greater range of motion and more precise control of instruments.

UI physicians have been among the first surgeons in the world to perform and perfect certain surgical procedures using robotic tools, including Ladd’s procedure (correcting a condition in which the intestines do not rotate properly), removal of a colon and removal of an adrenal carcinoma. UI Hospitals & Clinics was the first hospital in Iowa to perform the robotically assisted prostatectomy and the robotically assisted pyeloplasty.

Our surgeons in several specialties have gained the expertise necessary to provide patients with this state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgery option.

DavinciUrologists Chad Tracy, MD, and James Brown, MD, with the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System®.
