I left feeling very overwhelmed and confused about what to do. I know he was very busy but I wish someone would have said this is what he proposed and what will happen next if you decide to have the surgery. All I was told was here is the number to call if you want to commit to doing the surgery.

Dr Howard was very helpful in explaining my current situation, was very courteous and seemed vested into my care. I was very pleased and appreciated Dr Howard going into detail with me and also sending me to correct area to diagnose symptoms that were not explanatory of my injuries. If all goes well although not the diagnosis I hoped for but I now have some answers and treatment options. Dr Howard also showed a caring and gentle manner that helped me through what to me Is a high stress and anxiety situation. I am hopeful I will not need Dr Howard in the future if I can rehab my injuries. If for some reason surgery is needed Dr Howard would have my trust and be my choice.

I was taken back to a room to gather the information for my visit. I was told that there were 2 people in front of me but that the Dr shouldn't be long. After approximately 45 minutes I asked a member of the staff if I had been forgotten, to which I was told "I don't think so, but I will check" I never received a response back from her. I was in that room for well over an hour before Dr Howard finally came in. By this point, I was 45 minutes late for my next appointment which was scheduled for 2:15. I was very upset with the wait time, but Dr Howard showed little concern.

It took a very long time to finally be sitting with this provider through no fault of his own, but I had to ask him to please answer my questions. He was willing to answer them, but seemed shocked I had questions at all. [...] I guess I was shocked that my primary care provider was so adamant I be seen, and then felt like my problem was no big deal once I was seen at UIHC. I felt that because I wasn't an emergent case, I was invisible. I was trying to be proactive and avoid problems in the future by establishing care now. It was disheartening to be told to call back ( and undergo the same maze to be seen?) when new symptoms arise in the future.

Dr. Talked with me for maybe three minutes and that was only because I asked a couple questions. Told me my case is likely non-surgical and he was referring me elsewhere. I understand he has many patients and may not want to waste his time' on a case that is non-surgical, but even spending five more minutes with me and making me feel like he was listening to my concerns about my pain would've helped me feel more at ease. Instead, he sat down to tell me there was nothing he could do for me and was very eager to get up and go. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Provider, was busy he did take time to review and show MRI's films xrays however he did not allow time to discuss and ask questions... Once reveiw of film was completed he went to recorder gave his dictated report of visit and plan and only at end did he add what to it, if we had not spoken out the added ending would not have been included, we did not have the opportunity to ask questions, I don't feel that this is a provider issue I feel that this is an administrative issue imposed on the providers to overbook and fill thier clinics which decreases time spent with patients making the provider rushed and overly busy,

I was very disappointed with Dr. Howard. I waited several weeks to see him and then when I did I literally saw him less than four minutes! Four minutes! He did an x-ray, but never got back to me and did not discuss what he saw I had previously had a mylogram, and he did not discuss what he thought. He wanted an x-ray first. However, we never circle back to previous mylogram. All I got was a message that said "no surgery indicated at this time. " He did not explain why, nor did I get a response when I ask why and what the decision was based upon. This was relevant because the mylogram indicated some serious conditions that may be rectified with surgical intervention. I am still waiting on any type of explanation or response to my question. And that was several weeks ago. I am very disappointed, he may be a good surgeon, but his people, skills and patience interaction skills are very poor. [...]

He did surgery to my back 21 years ago with great results. Reason to go back to the same Dr. I didn't get the feeling he understood the neuropathy or if that is the problem. I understand he was going to visit with another surgeon but I would like to know if it is a neuropathy issue what steps I should be taking instead of just waiting for a answer from the doctor. I have been going to a neurologist for over a year with little or no improvement that's why I came to Iowa city to see a specialist. I don't know if I should continue the medication I am on or if he possibly has another alternative for neurology or therapy or something I should be doing in the meantime. We may discuss that whenever Dr. Howard calls me with his follow up from the other surgeon.

During this appointment, I spent about a minute and a half with the doctor, at which time I was simply informed that I would need to have a new MRI taken, which I already knew, and which I had wondered why they hadn't simply ordered the new imaging before the appointment, which otherwise seemed much like a waste of time. No care was actually provided or discussed.

I only have one complaint. If this was my appointment where they done a CAT scan of my head why didn't the doctor explain to me that I have had a stroke. His report to my doctor where I live told him I had a stroke. I knew nothing about it.

I have a lump from where my shunt tubing was. Thought I was getting an X-ray on the area. Dr didn't seem to care what it is. Was told when I got X-ray it wasn't a shunt series. Not for the lump. Still don't know what the lump is

We had read online how this doctor took his time to answer questions, made patient feel at ease, etc. We got none of that! He came in and seemed in a hurry just get on to next patient. Did not answer questions, the exam (if that is what you called it) was non-existent. I was more scared and confused then when I went.

Still waiting to hear from the doctor about the MRI results, but it's the fault of our clinic for not sending them to him before our appointment. I'm sure once the MRI tech gets our disc and reads it, we will be hearing from him soon. Based on the written notes I provided from our doctor, I'm confident with the answer/explanation he gave us and hope that stays true once we hear back.
