About Sarah Shaffer

I was born and raised in Iowa, but have had the privilege of training at excellent institutions throughout the Midwest. When University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics' Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offered me my dream job, I was honored. I am extremely excited to bring my unique training and experience to care for obstetric and gynecologic patients in my home state, as well as to help train upcoming physicians who will do the same.

With Dr.Shaffer because she has so many patients it isn't her fault at all but it is really hard getting a hold of her the thing I would change is Mychart I feel MyChart messaging is very hard to get someone to respond and when you MyChart a provider it sometimes confuses them.I wouldn't change anything with Dr.Shaffer she is amazing.

Dr. Shafer has cared for me for two pregnancies now. After a traumatic delivery experience with my first baby I was able to have a successful VBAC with my second. She was confident and provided all the necessary information so my husband and I could feel at ease going Into the labor and delivery experience this time. There is something very peculiar yet extraordinary about Dr. Shaffer. It is a well-known fact that, ordinarily for women, annual gynecological checks are not the most pleasant experience. I have had more than a couple of dozens of these appointments on the three continents I have lived. No, those are not happy times no matter where you live. But with Dr. Shaffer, it is totally different. I find myself rushing to her appointments putting my foot on the gas. I believe the motivation behind this is not only her kind, sweet, and smart personality but also the trust she has built over the years. Her approach to her patients is as delicate as magnolias but her decisions, solutions, and treatment plans are as tough as steel. She solves the problems, answers questions, and finds well-matching referrals for the patient's overall well-being. I leave the exam room with a road map for my upcoming year's health care steps. Thank you, Dr. Shaffer, for everything you do!

Fair rating relates to the inability to connect with Dr. In a timely manner. I have been having issues with pelvic pain and would go to the Group nurse practitioner however Dr. Shaffer claims she can be my gynecologist as well. I have had a pelvic ultra sound ordered a week ago and called her nurse to get some answers and am still waiting for a return call from doctor. No one else has been able to help me in this regard.

Dr. Shaffer has been a God-send to me during my vulva/vaginal issues and concerns. For the first time in 8-9 years, someone has been empathetic and showed compassion for what I have been experiencing. She has also given me a diagnosis, set up a plan for medication usage, and has implemented surgery and after care. I think she is wonderful, experienced in her practice, and compassionate to her patients.

I loved all of the staff!! My doctor told me all about the different options that I had for treatment and even filled me in on some experimental treatments that could be possible. The nurse and the doctor that I saw were so engaged in their work and it was amazing to see.
