When—or whether—to have children is one of the most important decisions you'll make.
The UI Health Care family planning team helps people who want to prevent or delay pregnancy or need advice about an unplanned pregnancy.
We listen carefully and respectfully to your wishes and concerns. Our team has the expertise and specialized training to guide you through family planning, including:
- Birth control medications, devices, and procedures
- Contraception advice for people with complex medical issues
- Counseling on options for abnormal or unintended pregnancy
- Management of miscarriage
- Medications and procedures that are used to interrupt pregnancy
Whatever your situation, we're here to help, compassionately and confidentially.
Providing the care that's right for you
Our commitment to patient-centered care means that our top priority is making sure you feel heard.
When you consult with a member of our team, we'll begin with an in-depth conversation about your goals, preferences, and health.
With that information, we'll walk you through the most evidence-based, up-to-date options that fit your needs.
If you're seeking birth control, we'll get you started as quickly as possible on the method you choose.
For example, if you want a contraceptive implant or IUD, we aim to place it the same day as your consultation. We’ll also discuss your options to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible when we insert your IUD.
You can choose to receive care from the type of provider you prefer. Our team includes gynecologists, midwives, and nurse practitioners.
Options that fit your situation and lifestyle
We offer the full spectrum of family planning care, including options for people with chronic conditions, abnormal pregnancies, and unintended pregnancies.
Our team includes a board-certified specialist in complex family planning.
If you have medical challenges that could make birth control or pregnancy more complicated, we'll help you find a solution.
You may want to work with our team if you have:
- A seizure disorder
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- History of blood clots
- History of organ transplant
- History of bariatric surgery
- Medications that can decrease birth control's effectiveness
If you have an abnormal or unintended pregnancy, we'll talk you through your options frankly and thoughtfully.
Your team might include UI Health Care specialists in:
- Ultrasound imaging
- Genetic counseling
- Maternal-fetal medicine
- Family planning and abortion
Whatever option you choose, we work to make sure you have the support you need throughout the process.
We can connect you with our colleagues in UI Health Care Women's Wellness and Counseling. They specialize in compassionate care for women with mental health concerns related to reproductive health.
