University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics has received designation as a Magnet® hospital four times, and UI Health Care has been named one of the top ten health care employers in the country for four years in a row by Forbes magazine.
These recent achievements are built on a strong foundation of nursing excellence, based on the Iowa Model of nursing self-governance. We invite you to examine the qualities that contribute to the Iowa Difference.
UI Hospitals & Clinics was the first hospital in Iowa to be designated a Magnet Hospital (2004) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the first hospital in Iowa to be re-designated three times (2008, 2013 and 2018).
The model ensures consistency in the delivery of nursing care, and defines for all registered nurses their authority, autonomy and accountability as they care for patients and families in our community, our state and world.
Our excellence in nursing continues to be recognized by others in the profession, including receiving five Beacon Awards for Excellence in critical care.
Nursing contributes to UI Health Care’s overall mission of Changing Medicine. Changing Lives.®
