University of Iowa Health Care Nursing Student Internship
The Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care is offering a 10-week Internship Program for nursing students between their junior and senior years at a 4-year nursing program or going into their last semester at a 2-year nursing program.
The program enhances their education and clinical skills as they work side-by-side with a nurse preceptor. The position offers competitive wages and additional opportunities to shadow nurses in various nursing areas. Program dates for the Summer 2026 Internship Program will begin on May 18, 2026, and May 25, 2026, and will run for 10 weeks (up to 360 hours), with the program closing near the end of July. At that time, Interns will have the opportunity to stay on in an hourly capacity pending area need.

- Perioperative Services
Eligibility
Nursing students must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be between junior and senior year at a 4-year nursing program; or going into the last semester at a 2-year nursing program
- Completed an acute care clinical rotation
- Interest in working at University of Health Care upon graduation
- School must have an active Clinical Affiliation Agreement with University of Iowa Health Care
- Step 1: Check with your nursing program’s Clinical Placement Coordinator or Director to confirm if an agreement already exists.
- Step 2: If your school does not have an agreement, your program must initiate one with UI Health Care. This process can take several weeks, so early action is encouraged. To initiate this process, please have your school affiliate contact Martin Gallardo at [email protected]. **Please note only one agreement is needed per College or University.
- Step 3: Your nursing program designee will need to verify the following:
• You have completed or will complete your acute care clinical rotations by summer 2026
• Your school has or is establishing an affiliation agreement with UI Health Care
• Your school offers an internship course (school determines course credit/fee structure)
• Your school can provide faculty oversight during your internship. Please note all criteria must be met for internship eligibility
