Spiritual support is an important part of holistic care, especially during difficult times, and is provided by a clinically certified interfaith chaplain who is respectful of each patient/family’s belief system. The hope is to find meaning that enables a person to cope while empowering them to make choices. The following are ways in which the chaplain can be of help:
- Encouraging life review
- Redefining hope
- Providing presence
- Facilitating reconciliation
- Helping to name one’s legacy
- Providing ritual, prayer and symbols of comfort
