Welcome from the ECMO Director

Welcome to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Program website. Our mission is to provide innovative cardiac and respiratory support for patients in Iowa, the Midwest, and abroad.

We designed this site for both patients and referring physicians. Our goal is to provide information on ECLS services, our team, our process, and why we are the "University of Iowa Difference."

  • You will find links to stories from our patients and see the impact our service can have on an individual and their family.
  • You will also find information on conditions best treated with ECLS support and how to contact our program with a referral or questions.
  • Other useful links, such as physician biographies, educational material, and professional affiliations associated with ECLS are also included.

Our intent is that you will find this website to be informative and see why the ECLS program at the University of Iowa signifies excellence in extracorporeal support.

Feedback is important and we welcome your comments so we can better serve the community.

The ECLS program at the University of Iowa is dedicated to becoming the ECLS program of choice for patients, physicians, and healthcare facilities within Iowa, neighboring states, and the world.
