The neurogenetics service provides comprehensive neurologic evaluation, genetic counseling, genetic testing, and management for genetic conditions affecting the nervous system.
Neurogenetics Services
University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics combines the expertise of the physician and genetic counselor to provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for individuals who have or are suspected to have a genetic condition affecting the nervous system. These include, but are not limited to:
- Hereditary spastic paraplegia
- Ataxia, including:
- Spinocerebellar
- Episodic
- Cerebellar
- Friedreich’s
- Leukodystrophy/leukoencephalopathy
- CADASIL
- Metachromatic leukodystrophy
- Adult-onset autosomal dominant leukodystrophy (ADLD)
- Zellweger syndrome spectrum disorders
- Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease
- Hemiplegic migraine
- Rare, single gene disorders
