Each summer, the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care offers a 10-week program for nursing students between their junior and senior years. The program enhances their education and clinical skills as they work as nursing assistants in a professional environment. The positions offer competitive wages and the opportunity to shadow a nurse in various nursing units. Program dates vary each year but generally begin about the third week of May and run through the end of July. Students may work up to 30-40 hours per week.
Placement is determined by the student’s interest and availability of positions.
Eligibility
Nursing Students Must Meet the Following Qualifications:
Must be between junior and senior year at a 4-year college or university; or going into your last semester at a 2-year college
Have completed an acute care clinical

This pilot program is exclusively for UI Nursing students interested in working at UIHC upon graduation and looking to explore their career options at UIHC. Gain real, hands-on experience at Iowa’s only nationally ranked hospital for adult and pediatric care. You’ll have the opportunity to:
Work alongside UI Health Care nurses to learn their day-to-day.
Job shadow up to three nurses on units or clinics of your choice
Work their preceptor’s full-time scheduled on the assigned unit.
