The Department of Pharmaceutical Care offers professional opportunities for clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and rewarding positions for clerical and support staff and students.
Clinical pharmacists participate in medical team rounds and provide pharmaceutical care services, including drug therapy monitoring, pharmacokinetic dosing, patient teaching and drug information and act as preceptors for Pharm.D. students for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Opportunities exist in adult and pediatric areas for various specialty practices, such as internal medicine, adult hematology/oncology and pediatric intensive care.
Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of areas, including acute pharmaceutical care, ambulatory care pharmacies, IV admixtures and pharmacy purchasing. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, pharmacy technicians perform essential tasks to assure the department's goal of providing accurate and timely services to patients. University of Iowa students are employed by the Department of Pharmaceutical Care as pharmacy technicians in acute pharmaceutical care, ambulatory care pharmacies and IV admixtures.
