"When preparing to graduate from the University of Iowa Master of Clinical Nutrition program, it became clear pretty quickly that possibly the best and most exciting job opportunity was right here at the UI. As the largest hospital in the area, top- ranked in the state, and a teaching hospital, working as a dietitian at UI provides the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced and skilled dietitians and other multidisciplinary team members. As a student here, I gained valuable experience interning in the many different areas with various patient populations, which opened my eyes to areas I didn't even know I had an interest in. As I've narrowed down those interests, it was important to me to be able to focus on those areas and to really become an expert. Therefore, another reason I chose to work at UI is the chance to specialize in my practice. The management team, who are amazing, worked hard to create a schedule for me to work in both the sports medicine and high-risk obstetrics clinics, allowing me to do just that. Working at UI is also the best of both worlds in that I can work independently as the only dietitian in these clinics, but also have a built-in support system of other dietitians whom I can turn to for help or a second opinion."
