Basic Facts about Medical Center on the University Campus

Our clinical enterprise includes 1,978 providers in fiscal year 2023, which included 1,195 staff physicians and dentists, 570 resident physicians and dentists, 213 fellow physicians, 5,333 nurses and nursing staff, and more than 6,800 additional staff members.

In fiscal year 2023, we recorded more than 33,000 inpatient admissions and over 52,000 emergency department visits. We performed over 36,000 major surgical operations and more than 190,000 minor surgical procedures.

In fiscal year 2023, we accommodated over 1.2 million clinic visits on our university campus and community and outreach clinics across Iowa.

We embrace our role as a collaborative, comprehensive health care center, receiving referrals from physicians around the region and country.

Many of our physicians also serve as faculty members in the UI Carver College of Medicine. Their teaching and research activities inform and complement the patient care we provide—giving you access to the latest treatments and therapies.
