Pre-Employment Screening for Health Care Personnel
Before beginning employment at University of Iowa Health Care, every resident/fellow is required to complete a health screening in the University Employee Health Clinic (UEHC). The free health screening is provided for your protection as well as the protection of our patients.
These documents are required condition of your training and employment at UI Health Care. Failure to provide this information could result in a revocation of employment and/or dismissal.
Pre-employment immunization requirements [Requires HealthCareID and password to log on to the system.]
Measles/Mumps/Rubella
| Vaccination | Requirements |

| Rubella | One vaccination date after 1970 |
| Rubeola (Measles) | Two vaccinations dates after 1968 |
| Mumps | Two vaccinations dates after first birthday |
| Varicella | Two vaccination dates |
Note: Documentation of serological tests indicating immunity to these diseases may be substituted for the vaccination. To find your records, contact your family physician, college student health service or other hospitals/institutions that vaccinated/tested you.
Tuberculosis (TB)
Upon initial employment:
- A blood test for TB (IGRA) will be drawn at your health screening visit unless you have a record of a TB Blood Test within the last 6 months of your health screen appointment.
Or
- TB symptom review for persons with a documented positive TB Blood Test (IGRA), chest x-ray report and associated treatment records.
Continued employment
- Frequency of TB screening is determined by the Annual TB Risk Assessment
Hepatitis B
If you have completed the vaccination series, obtain documentation of your vaccination date or Hepatitis B titer documentation (HBsAb or anti-HBs).
Note: The Hepatitis B vaccination series is highly recommended, and UI Health Care is required to document your acceptance or declination of this immunization.
Respirator Fitness Testing
Respirator fit testing to an N-95 respirator will be performed as part of your health screening visit if it is one of your compliances.
