Basic Facts about Medical Center on the University Campus

Our clinical enterprise comprised more than 12,000 staff members in fiscal year 2025, which included over 1,450 staff physicians and dentists, over 900 resident and fellow physicians and resident dentists, and over 6,000 staff members in the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care.

In fiscal year 2025, we recorded more than 40,000 inpatient admissions and over 54,000 emergency department visits. We performed over 41,000 major surgical operations and more than 242,000 minor surgical procedures.

In fiscal year 2024, we accommodated over 1.3 million clinic visits on our university campus and community and outreach clinics across Iowa.

We embrace our role as a collaborative, comprehensive health care center, receiving referrals from physicians around the region and country.

Many of our physicians also serve as faculty members in the UI Carver College of Medicine. Their teaching and research activities inform and complement the patient care we provide—giving you access to the latest treatments and therapies.
