Ronald McDonald House and Hope Lodge

Two guest houses are available very close to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for eligible patients and family members: Ronald McDonald House and the Hope Lodge.

The Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City serves families of children up to age 21 who are receiving critical medical care at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Referrals are prioritized on a waiting list according to the severity of the child’s illness and distance traveled. Services are provided at no cost to families. Those wishing to contribute toward their stay may donate $15-$20 per night for a room, but there is no expectation of payment. Call 319-356-3939 or 6-3939 from a hospital phone.

The Russell and Ann Gerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, provides 28 rooms for cancer patients and their caregivers, offering free, non-medical lodging, and convenient access to the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Any person age 18 and older who has been diagnosed with cancer and is actively receiving outpatient cancer treatment in Iowa City, is eligible to stay at the Hope Lodge on a first come, first served basis.
