Visitor Guidelines at UI Health Care
Visitor Guidelines
Any visitor under the age of 14 must always be supervised by an adult.
For all inpatient units are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Face masks are optional for all in our facilities, except for those who have symptoms of a respiratory virus.
Current Restrictions, Effective April 11, 2024
For adult patients (age 18+)
Four unique visitors/support persons are allowed per patient per day.
Members of clergy do not count toward the unique visitor total. There is no "per day limit" for members of clergy who have been requested to visit patients.
Up to two visitors/support persons at a time are allowed on the unit.
If a patient is admitted after 8 p.m., visitors are all allowed to go to the inpatient unit for one hour after patient admission.
One visitor/support person is allowed overnight. (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
- Two visitors/support persons are allowed for patients
- Four visitors/support persons are allowed per patient per day.
- Only two visitors/support persons on the unit at a time
- At least one visitor must be 18 or older.
- Four visitors/support people—plus birth support person/partner (father/designee of baby)—are allowed per patient.
For pediatric patients
- Four unique visitors/support persons are allowed per patient per day.
- Up to four visitors at a time are allowed on the unit.
- Two visitors/support persons may stay overnight. (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
NICU:
Visitors under the age of 14 must be a sibling of the patient or the patient’s parent.
Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit:
Only two adult visitors/support persons are allowed per patient per day
- Two adult visitors/support persons are allowed.
- Four visitors/support persons are allowed per patient per day.
These changes do not apply to UI Health Care Medical Center Downtown.
For All Visitors/Support Persons
These requirements must be met for visitors/support persons to be allowed entry into our facilities.
- Must not have symptoms of a respiratory or any other contagious illness.
- Should be a support person who is essential for the physical and mental well-being of the patient.
- If under the age of 14, they must always be supervised by an adult.
- Must stay in designated areas (such as the patient’s room or clinic waiting area) as much as possible.
- Note: Visitor guidelines in some areas are different to protect the health and safety of patients.
- Patients may receive religious services or visits from a clergy member of their choice at any reasonable time if it can be provided without disruption to care.
- There is no "per day limit" to members of clergy that patients have requested visit under the current visitor guidelines.

Further Assistance
- Mobility assistance: Staff can assist patients with exiting/entering vehicles, wheelchair escorts, and directions.
- Interpreter: Call 1-319-356-1967 or 1-800-777-8442 ahead of your visit to ask for an interpreter (preferred) or once you arrive by asking a staff member.
- More information: The Main Entrance Information Desk is staffed 24/7 (call 1-319-356-2456 with questions), and the Office of the Patient Experience will have staff at major entrances to address concerns.
